Sissy Doutsiou is an actress and poet. She was born in Athens in 1980. She studied Astrophysics at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England. She graduated from the Delos Drama School in 2009. She is a founding member of the Institute of Experimental Arts and organizer of the annual International Video Festival in Athens.
She starred in theatrical performances: "Metamorphosis" F. Kafka, "The Maids" G. Zene, "I'm Dying Like a Country" D. Dimitriadis, "Psychosis 4.48 Psychosis" Sarah Kane, "Night! - Yard Gal" R.Prichard, Anatoli directed by Surpiyo Samadjar etc. She toured with plays, poetry readings, performances and lectures in Europe, the USA. Mexico, India and Nepal.
She has designed acting seminars to educate young people in modern theater and performance including Love and Sadness in Theater, Actress Art, Performance in Contemporary Theater, Body and Art Acting.
There has been many dedications to the printed and electronic press for her artistic work and her presence in the theater. The president of the Theater Critics, Konstantinos Bouras has applauded Sissy Doutsiou for her riveting performances in Sarah Kane's 4.48 Psychosis and Franz Kafka's Transformation.
She has collaborated with many theaters and organizations in Europe, USA and Asia. She has collaborated with the American theater company Living Theater in the production and execution of a theatrical workshop in Athens (2019). The workshop entitled "A Day in The Life of The City - A day in the life of the city", developed by Hanon Reznikov and Judith Malina in 1990, has been featured in the US, Europe and South America.
Significant meetings with people from the Leah Vanessa Bachar Theater (Living Theater), Suprijo Samjadar (Grotowski Theater) and David Graeber have influenced her work and career.
The play Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, directed by Tasos Sagris and produced by the Institute for Experimental Arts, premiered on February 1, 2020. The play is under the auspices of the Czech Cultural Center and the Franz Kafka Society - Prague.
Her poems can be found in "Anthology of Modern Greek Poetry: 1550-2017" Ekstasis Editions, Canada 2018 between Manolis Anagnostakis, Katerina Angelaki Rook, Kiki Dimoula. "Mythological Monsters" is her fifth book. Also published by Voidness publications: "Insult of Public Modesty" in which Nanos Valaoritis introduced her in the Greek poetry community, "Oh! Occult", "Voyer" and "Glorious Days". Her poems have been presented in Poetry magazine Τα Ποιητικά (Ta Poitika – Poetically), in the literary magazine ENEKEN, among others.
She has participated in international exhibitions and festivals: International Poetry Festival (LSE London, 2018), City After Eight Conference Berlin (2019), Institute for Experimental Arts Calcutta India (2012), A Film Festival New York (2010), University of California Berkeley (2010), 1st Biennial Destroy Athens (2007), Gathering of the Tribes - Frankfurt (2006), Benaki Museum (2005).
